Privacy Policy

1. What we collect

  • Account information: email address and password (or magic-link authentication)
  • Resume content: name, contact details, USCG endorsements, Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) number, work history, education, certifications, and other information you enter to build your resume
  • Sea letter uploads: images or PDFs of sea letters you upload for AI-assisted parsing, plus the extracted data
  • Newsletter preference: if you opt in, your email address is shared with our newsletter provider

2. How we use it

We use your information to:

  • Build and let you edit your maritime resume
  • Extract work-history data from sea letters you upload, using a third-party AI provider
  • Share your resume with maritime employers and recruiters — but only if you explicitly opt in via the consent checkbox in the resume builder
  • Send you newsletter updates, if you opt in
  • Maintain and secure your account

3. Who we share it with

We use the following third-party services to operate BrightBoard:

  • Supabase — authentication and database storage for your account and resume data
  • Anthropic — AI processing for sea letter parsing and resume revision suggestions. Content you submit for these features is sent to Anthropic's API for processing.
  • Buttondown — newsletter delivery, only if you opt in to the newsletter
  • Vercel — hosting and infrastructure

We do not sell your personal information. We only share your resume with maritime employers or recruiters if you explicitly opt in.

4. Data retention

We retain your account and resume data for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us.

5. Your rights

You can:

  • Access and update your resume information at any time
  • Withdraw employer-sharing or newsletter consent at any time
  • Request deletion of your account and data

6. Security

We use industry-standard measures, including row-level security on our database and encrypted storage, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
